Ask answers Longchamp questions

Ask confirmed his class under Ryan Moore with victory in the Prix Royal-Oak at Longchamp.

Ask confirmed his class under Ryan Moore with victory in the Prix Royal-Oak at Longchamp.

The Michael Stoute-trained entire showed a touch of quality to claim his second Group One of the season.

Schiaparelli, Godolphin’s recent Group One winner, attempted to make all of the running in the hands of Frankie Dettori, with Sevenna in second during the early exchanges.

Although the latter grew weary and soon faded, Dettori’s mount showed no sign of stopping and at one stage even stretched two lengths clear.

But Moore, who was always close to the early pace aboard the 7-4 favourite, slowly cranked up the gears inside the final furlong, seizing the day by a slender margin.

Manighar, trained by Alain de Royer-Dupre, finished third.

A stewards’ inquiry was called, but the placings remained unaltered.

Ask was last seen in action at Ascot, where he finished third in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
