Channon duo off on travels

Two of Mick Channon’s stable stalwarts, Halicarnassus and Lahaleeb, are set to go on their travels once more.

Halicarnassus won the Bosphorus Cup in Turkey last month under Alan Munro and is set for the Premio Del Jockey Club in Milan on October 18.

Irish Guineas runner-up Lahaleeb has failed to reproduce her best form since the spring but is set to run in the E.P. Taylor Stakes at Woodbine in Canada, where she will be ridden by William Buick.

“Halicarnassus is incredibly fresh considering all the travelling he’s done, and telling me Milan is the place to go next,” said Channon on www.mickchannon.tv.

“Alan Munro has been booked and hopefully the race and the racecourse will suit him.

“Getting the right ground has been an ongoing issue with Lahaleeb and she certainly wouldn’t have had it in the Sun Chariot Stakes, but I think we have a very good chance of getting some cut in the ground at Woodbine.

“I’ve been in touch with the racecourse and they say it’s on the soft side with more rain on the way, and that can only be good.

“William is a very good rider who I’ve always admired. He’s out there for Buccellati in the Canadian International and we’re very happy to have him aboard our filly.”
