Two wins for Tregoning at Bath
It was a another fine day for Marcus Tregoning as he bagged a brace of victories at Bath.
Most impressive of his short-priced double was Tanfidh who did things the hard way in the EBF/Thermolast Roofing Maiden Fillies' Stakes.
Sent off the 8-11 favourite, the three-year-old's problems began immediately, missing the break and requiring some assistance from the saddle by Tadhg O'Shea to return to the front.
The filly then ran wide round the turn, surrendering at least five lengths to her rivals and requiring O'Shea to scrub her along once again.
However, she responded gamely and surged back to the head of affairs, running on well with only occasional bouts of inexperience preventing her stretching further clear than the two lengths which separated her from Chincoteague in second.
Tregoning said: "She's had a few problems so it has been quite difficult to get her prepared but now she's got the hang of it maybe she'll win something else.
"It's towards the end of the year now though and the main thing is she's a winner."
Lady Hestia (6-4 favourite) recorded an eased-down victory in the Vinci Construction Handicap earlier on the card for Tregoning.
Fin Vin De Leu had attempted to make all the running but Lady Hestia was always stalking the leader and was right on his heels by the turn into the home straight and won by two and a quarter lengths.
"We're particularly pleased with her," said Tregoning.
"She'll be a foundation mare for the Pakenhams (owners, who also had Sir Percy, Tregoning's Derby winner).
"She's won very well and she'll win another couple I'm sure."
Tregoning's yard remain in flying form and he took the Cumberland Lodge Stakes at Ascot on Sunday for the fifth time in nine years.
Mawatheeq, the winner, looked a classy individual and Tregoning is still mulling his future options.
"The only thing would be if Sheikh Hamdan wants to run him in the Champion Stakes," he said.
"We won't decide that until the week before the race, we'll see how he's going.
"He took the race very well and I'm sure there are more proper races in him."
