Kit to skip Mile test

Kithonia is not likely to join an elite band of Fillies’ Mile winners for master trainer Henry Cecil.

Kithonia is not likely to join an elite band of Fillies’ Mile winners for master trainer Henry Cecil.

Cecil has taken the Meon Valley Stud-sponsored Group One six times since 1978 with some of the biggest names of his career including Oh So Sharp, Reams Of Verse, Bosra Sham and Diminuendo, but the Niarchos Family-owned Kithonia is his only entry at this stage.

She is related to top-quality types Hernando and Johann Quatz and made a smart start to her career when coming away with a maiden at Salisbury earlier this month.

The family’s racing manager Alan Cooper said: “We were very pleased with the way she won at Salisbury but we think the Fillies’ Mile might come too soon.

“She has some options in October, most likely in a stakes race, and she might need a little more experience before tackling a top race.”
