Guineas would be silver lining for Ryan
John Ryan is hoping his unbeaten colt Silver Grecian can develop into a contender for the stanjames.com 2000 Guineas.
The promising youngster is 25-1 with the sponsors after taking his 100% record to three in the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket.
And Ryan would love to see the son of Haafhd, winner of the 2000 Guineas in 2004, try to emulate his sire in the colts' Classic next May.
"He's come out of the race well, he's eaten up and is a happy boy," said Ryan.
"We've done our thing at the moment. We'll just see how he comes on in the next month to see where we go.
"We are thinking of probably one last race before the end of the season. There a few obvious races to choose from for a horse of that calibre, because now we've got to this stage we have to aim him at certain races.
"We'll wait and see, we know where we want to go next year, we've just got to plan our way to there. In an ideal world he'll be at the 2000 Guineas. It would be nice to go for the Dewhurst, but we won't make any decisions for a month.
"He's bred through the stallion to be a Guineas horse and he's shown he's got various attributes, he should get the mile OK, he's got a bit of speed as well and a turn of foot.
"I just hope he grows and matures into it. I don't want to rush him now.
"We all know the route he can go, that's written in books as it were, but he'll tell us where the next chapter is.
"What he's done so far is OK. The bigger picture for me is to have a stronger, mature horse for next year. I'm not in a hurry and I'm not being pressured by owners either, which is always a lovely position to be in.
"It's a team effort, Michael (Hills) has a bit of input as well and we'll sit down with the owners and see where we can go.
"I'm thinking of the bigger picture with the horse, he's done nothing wrong with us so far and we've got nothing to prove."
