Superlative aim for Audio
Big Audio is bound for the July meeting at Newmarket after opening his account in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot.
The son of Oratorio appreciated the step up to seven furlongs to get off the mark at the third attempt and hold off Emperor Claudius by a short head in Saturday’s Listed contest.
He is now set to try and follow up in the Superlative Stakes over the same distance on July 10.
“Big Audio might well run in the Superlative Stakes, for which he does not incur a penalty,” said trainer Richard Hannon.
“We knew that he would improve for the step up to seven furlongs, but we were concerned that the ground at Ascot might be too quick, so it was a pleasant surprise to win.
“Hughesie (Richard Hughes) was impressed with the foot he showed to make up 15 lengths on the leaders who had gone off too fast. It was certainly a nice way to break our maiden.” he told richardhannonracing.tv.
Hannon also revealed Angel’s Pursuit was likely to go on a retrieving mission in the TNT July Stakes at Newmarket’s big summer fixture.
The Pastoral Pursuits colt had made a winning debut at headquarters only to disappoint when favourite for the Windsor Castle Stakes at the Royal meeting.
However, Hannon has not lost faith in him and the trainer believes he will be suited by an extra furlong.
“We have always liked him, and it was just a shame that we could not squeeze a second run into him before Ascot as he is more green than Canford Cliffs (Coventry Stakes winner),” he said.
“We have never worked the two together, but why should we when there is no prize money for winning on the gallops? Angel’s Pursuit wants six furlongs, and the July Stakes is the perfect race for him.”
