Fallon: Yates will be Gold star

Kieren Fallon believes Yeats can create history by winning an historic fourth Ascot Gold Cup on Thursday.

The former champion jockey partnered Aidan O'Brien's superstar to victory in the race in 2006, with Mick Kinane (2007) and Johnny Murtagh (2008) the other two lucky pilots.

Things did not go to plan in his prep race at Navan when he trailed home sixth of eight, but Fallon expects him to prove a totally different proposition back at his second home.

"I wasn't going to be with Yeats after he disappointed at Navan but he probably wasn't tuned up and he didn't look a million dollars," Fallon told At The Races.

"He had always won that race, it is a great tune up for Ascot, but he's obviously getting older and wiser and on ground he doesn't like he just thought he'd save himself for Ascot.

"It will be totally different ground and he'll raise his game, he loves it at Ascot. He thinks he's the king and I think he will be on the day."

Fallon is currently riding work for Michael Stoute, among others, as he gears up for a return to the saddle in September.

He has seen Stoute's Gold Cup contender Patkai at close quarters and is of the opinion he will turn the tables on Geordieland, his conqueror at Sandown.
