Denman on the mend

Paul Nicholls expects Denman to be “100% sound” in a week’s time following his fall at Aintree on Thursday.

The 2008 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner struck into himself and came down at the second-last fence in the totesport Bowl.

He was taken away for thorough examination but was allowed to return to Nicholls’ stables in Ditcheat.

Nicholls said: “We got him back last night and he ate up. He was a little bit stiff this morning, but he trotted up and is almost sound.

“In 48 hours we’ll know more, but the signs are encouraging and in a week he will be 100% sound, which is great news.

“He’s finished for the season and will go out to grass with his mates, Kauto (Star), Big Buck’s and Master Minded, and he’ll have a good summer off,” he told Teletext.
