Kingsgate Native returns following stud failure
Top-class sprinter Kingsgate Native is set to return to training this season after an unsuccessful stint at stud.
The former John Best inmate won the Nunthorpe Stakes at York as a juvenile and showed that was no fluke when claiming the Golden Jubilee at Royal Ascot last year.
He was retired to Cheveley Park Stud following two further outings but after failing to get a single mare in foal, connections have made the decision to bring him back into training with Michael Stoute.
The stud’s managing director Chris Richardson said: “Although we are still waiting for results from the last 12 mares to be mated, the outlook looks bleak, which is extremely disappointing for all concerned.
“As a result, Mr and Mrs Thompson (owners of Cheveley Park) have decided to send Kingsgate Native back into training in Newmarket – where all their horses are currently trained – with their senior trainer, Michael Stoute.
“Mr and Mrs Thompson are very grateful to John Best, who trained Kingsgate Native last year on behalf of Cheveley Park Stud and John Mayne, in whose colours he won the Golden Jubilee at Royal Ascot.”
Kingsgate Native will initially be aimed at the sprint races at the Royal Meeting.
