Sedgefield card beaten by weather

Officials at Sedgefield have been forced to abandon this afternoon’s meeting due to a waterlogged track.

The Durham venue was covered in snow 24 hours ago and although clerk of the course Charlie Moore initially called an inspection for 4pm on Monday afternoon, he then decided to take a second look at 7.30am today.

Moore found the snow to have all but gone upon arrival this morning but the thaw has left the course waterlogged in places.

“We have had an amazing thaw overnight and there is virtually no snow on the track,” said Moore.

“But unfortunately this has left us waterlogged and there are too many false areas of ground. This was always going to be the worry and it is disappointing.

“A few people weren’t too happy when we called a second inspection this morning but it was the right decision and on another day we might have won.”
