Sweeps Hill team mull options

John Kiely is in no rush to make plans for Sweeps Hill following his impressive debut victory at Leopardstown yesterday.

The JP McManus-owned four-year-old was not unfancied for the Kilternan (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race and he barely came off the bridle in beating a previous Willie Mullins-trained winner Rhyl Accord by a length and a half.

Kiely admits he has always shown up well at home but will wait to see how he comes out of the race before deciding whether to send him for the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham, for which he is just 12-1 with William Hill.

“He did it OK there. I have a few nice horses at home and he would be among them,” said Kiely.

“It wasn’t really a surprise to see him win but we have no plans for him at the moment as he is still only a baby. He was born in New Zealand so he is barely four yet.

“We will see how he comes out of the race but we will give him time to mature. The horse will tell me what to do.”
