O’Brien hopes for Paris win
Trainer Aidan O'Brien is to attempt to crown his unforgettable season by lifting the richest race in Europe for the second year running.
The Ballydoyle man will have two major chances of winning the €4m Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp in Paris, a year after Dylan Thomas took the prize by a whisker and then had to survive a lengthy Stewards Enquiry.
Johnny Murtagh will ride Duke of Marmalade today, already the winner of five Group One's this season, while Seamie Herrernan is on board last years Irish Derby winner Soldier of Fortune.
In all there are 16 runners, with O'Brien also saddling pacemaker Red Rock Canyon.
He also saddles several other fancied horses in other Group One races on a glittering card.
The Arc is the highlight of one of the most valuable cards ever staged on a European racecourse.
