Mont strikes for Godolphin

The Godolphin team hit the mark at Goodwood when Montmorency hung on by the skin of his teeth in the EBF Celer Et Audax Maiden Stakes.

Chris Catlin set out to make all on the Pivotal colt who fought-off one challenge after another.

However, from going up and down on the spot that fellow 3-1 joint-favourite Park Lane picked up so well that it was only by a nose that he failed to catch the winner.

Tony Garth, one of Godolphin’s travelling head grooms, said: “Our horse has a bit of speed and is improving with every race.

“He knuckles down and gets on with it and deserved that, finding a nice bit of ground up the middle of the course.”

Neil Callan said of the second: “He got unbalanced coming down the hill but really picked-up at the end.”
