Major chance in Marois
Richard Hannon challenged Major Cadeaux to make his presence felt in the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville on Sunday.
The four-year-old this season stepped up to the highest level for the first time in the Sussex Stakes, and was not disgraced when finishing third behind the seemingly-unstoppable Henrythenavigator.
Hannon admits Major Cadeaux faces another tough task in France this weekend, but hopes he will at least pick up some prize-money.
“We are hopeful of a good run on Sunday but, obviously, it is another very good race,” said the East Everleigh handler.
“We were delighted with his run at Goodwood and he should improve a good bit for that, to be honest.
“It does not look a hot contest, but I think he has every chance of being placed.”
Freddie Head has mopped up a number of Group One events across the Channel this season and will be double-handed with Prix Jean Prat winner Tamayuz and the pacemaking Racinger.
“Tamayuz has been very well since winning at Chantilly last time – in fact he couldn’t be better,” said Head.
“He was very impressive in the Prix Jean Prat and my only worry is that the ground at Deauville is going to be on the soft side.
“The forecast is for some rain on Saturday and Sunday, so I hope it is not too soft.
“I am using Racinger as a lead-horse, but that is the way he likes to run as he is a galloper – I hope he can be placed too.”
