Culhane third on comeback
Tony Culhane was out of luck on his return to the saddle at Hamilton, where he finished third on board the Mick Channon-trained Deer Daylami.
The leading northern jockey had not ridden since April 2007 when he damaged his neck and back in a fall at Wolverhampton – an absence later compounded after he was hit with a one-year ban.
Culhane was suspended after he was found guilty of aiding or abetting individuals to lay or back horses with the benefit of inside information.
He was scheduled to return on Grit earlier on the Hamilton card but that one was declared a non-runner.
Riding Deer Daylami in the Daily Record Maiden Stakes, Culhane was never too far from the pace but his mount failed to quicken when required as Wells Lyrical and Buddhist Monk fought out the finish.
Buddhist Monk went down by half a length but looked an unfortunate loser after Seb Sanders dropped his whip and drifted right across the track at the business end.
