Brits foiled in Curragh opener
Ryan Moore was a fast-finishing second aboard Zero Tolerance in the Ladbrokes.com Handicap as Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby afternoon got underway at the Curragh.
Fresh from a Group One win at the County Kildare track 24 hours earlier, Moore looked well held with a furlong left to run before conjuring a late burst from David Barron’s eight-year-old.
The 9-2 favourite stayed on late in the day but found 10-1 chance Settigano a head too good at the line.
Winning trainer Michael Joseph Fitzgerald said: “I was very confident from where the horse was placed during the race, and if you know him then he is an easy ride.
“I might give him a month off now and bring him back at the back-end of the year when he is more likely to get his ground.”
