Tower team keen on Wales's bid
Connections of Phoenix Tower are hopeful the step up in trip to 10 furlongs will see their Lockinge runner-up back in front in Wednesday’s Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Henry Cecil’s colt returned to action with a promising success in the Earl Of Sefton at Newmarket and found only Creachadoir three-quarters of a length too strong at Newbury last time.
Phoenix Tower is yet to race beyond nine furlongs but seemed to be staying on stoutly last month and should not be inconvenienced on breeding.
“He’s up to a mile and a quarter, but he’s got the pedigree for it and he’s come out of the Juddmonte Lockinge really well,” said Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Prince Khalid Abdullah.
“It’s a good, competitive race, but he’s only been beaten once in his life so we’re hopeful for him.”
