Appalachian Trail may return to the scene of his latest triumph in the search of a first Group success.

The seven-year-old swooped fast and late to run out a convincing winner of a Listed race over seven furlongs at Haydock on Saturday and is set to return to the Merseyside track on May 31 for the John O’Gaunt Stakes.

“He’s come out bouncing and in really good heart after his Haydock run so we may go back there for the John O’Gaunt in a couple of weeks’ time,” said trainer Linda Perratt.

“He’s gone up 4lb for winning that race so handicaps will be very hard for him and it will have to be another race or a Group Three.

“We’ll put him in at Haydock, see what it looks like and take it from there.”
