Allegretto team consider Gold Cup bid
Allegretto could have another crack at the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot as she chases further Group One glory this season.
The five-year-old could finish only ninth at the Royal meeting last season before bouncing back to form with victory in the Goodwood Cup.
Sir Michael Stouteâs charge rounded out her year by winning the two-mile Prix Royal-Oak, her first success at the highest level.
Although she failed to get home over the extra half-mile at Ascot last year, Chris Richardson, racing manager for owners Cheveley Park Stud, has not ruled out another try in the stayersâ feature.
âAllegretto is not an overly big filly but sheâs as game as a pebble and has a huge heart,â he said.
âShe has a wonderful pedigree and we were obviously delighted to see her get a Group One on the board at the end of the season.
âShe seems in good form and I think she has strengthened up over the winter.
âObviously she didnât perform at Ascot last year with a visor on but we will see how she is on the run-up to that again this year and consider what we do,â he told 'At The Races'.
