Lux camp lured by Haydock prize
Luxurix could step up in class in the Anglo Irish Bank Novices’ Hurdle at Haydock on January 19.
The seven-year-old scored a first win over obstacles when powering home by nine lengths in a Lingfield novice event last week on his third hurdles start.
Trainer Paul Webber is now looking to move up in class, with Haydock and the totesport Trophy on February 9 under consideration.
“He might go to Haydock and he will also be entered, like many others, in the totesport Trophy at Newbury,” said Webber.
“It is a Grade Two at Haydock but it’s hard to find an intermediate step for him and he is an experienced Flat horse.”
Luxurix’s Lingfield win propelled him into the market for the Anglo Irish Bank Supreme Novices’ Hurdle and although he is currently a 25-1 shot with Stan James, Webber has made no decision on his participation,.
“He will be entered for Cheltenham but he obviously seems to be a horse who relishes heavy ground and he would be unlikely to get that at the Festival,” the trainer added.
“We will run him in one or two nice races on soft ground and then form an opinion about Cheltenham.”
