Deville to skip bonus bid
Connections of Kip Deville are likely to pass up the chance of a £1m (€1.43m) bonus in Hong Kong in December.
The Breeders’ Cup Mile winner, who held off the fast-finishing Excellent Art at Monmouth Park on Saturday, is now eligible for the bonus if he completes a big-race double by landing the Cathay Pacific at Sha Tin on December 9.
Yet trainer Richard Dutrow jr, who advised the colt’s owners to supplement Kip Deville for the Breeders’ Cup Mile at a cost of £300,000 (€429,225), said the four-year-old would most likely spend time resting in Florida.
“He came back real good,” Dutrow said. “I’ll probably leave him at Monmouth and then ship him down to Florida.
“I’m really not thinking about a race like that.
“I haven’t discussed it with the owners, but they haven’t told me what to do before and I don’t know why they would start now.”
