Spencer blooms on Floristry

Jamie Spencer brought his red-hot form to Doncaster and posted a classy victory aboard Michael Stoute’s Floristry in the six-furlong Coral Trophy.

The leader of the jockeys’ championship has been firing in the winners from all angles this week, and his latest success could not have come any easier as the filly completed a hat-trick in the Listed event.

Town Moor punters piled into the juvenile, sending her off the 6-4 favourite, and she repaid their faith in style.

Spencer switched his mount off at the rear of the field but his mount sparked to life when asked for an effort and coasted round the field to beat Godolphin’s Fateh Field by an easy length and a half.

He said: “She is a good filly and she quickened up well. I tried to get cover for as long as possible as it is windy, and she has gone and won well. It is a shame she has come good so late in the season as she would have done well in the top fillies’ races during the summer.

“Things are going so well and I have had 10 winners since Monday, so I hope it continues.”

Kerrin McEvoy was handed a one-day ban (November 7) for his ride on Fateh Field but that disappointment will have been swiftly forgotten when he booted home Ibn Khaldun in the Racing Post Trophy.

Ian Semple is readying himself for retirement at the end of the year, but he is certainly not resting on his laurels and his Sunrise Safari initiated a 101-1 double in the racingpost.co.uk Handicap.

The 11-1 winner flew from the pack inside the distance and had a comfortable length and a quarter in hand over Aegean Dancer at the line.

Eaves said of Semple: “I have been with Ian for about three years now and have ridden plenty of winners for him.

“He is due to finish around Christmas time and it will be a real shame to see him go as he is a good trainer and a nice guy.”

Semple and Eaves doubled up as 15-2 chance Appalachian Trail denied 7-2 joint-favourite Dijeerr in the Unison Trade Union “Positively Public” Conditions Stakes.

Racegoers got off to a flyer as the favourite obliged in the opening Unison “All For One” Trade Union Nursery, with Kal Barg romping to victory under Philip Robinson.

The 7-4 chance had finished third in better company at Ascot last time and burst clear in the final furlong to score in fine style for trainer Michael Jarvis.

Winning owner Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum was represented by Francis Gifford, who said: “He is improving and his jockey says he enjoys his racing.

“His form is working out well and that is a good way to end the season with him.”

John Gosden sent out Night Hour (11-2) to take the Trade Union Unison “Your Friend At Work” Handicap by three lengths, while Giant Slalom (13-2) landed the Pertemps People Development “Hands And Heels” Apprentice Series Final Handicap.
