Fast Kah can motor home
Luca Cumani has a big couple of weeks coming up what with Purple Moon going for glory Down Under, but he can walk away with a nice prize at Doncaster courtesy of Kahara.
The three-year-old Sadler’s Wells filly will arrive at Town Moor on a four-timer and looks another one of Cumani’s improving handicappers.
There are not many people in the game who are better at placing their horses to better effect than the affable Italian and this filly is a case in point.
She ran in two backend maidens last season, showing enough promise to be sent off at 15-8 on her debut this term at Newbury, where she duly obliged.
Her handicap debut came at Goodwood where she defied a mark of 73, beating Prince Sabaah by half a length, although Cumani’s wife Sara was quoted afterwards as saying she hated the track and she would be much more at home at the likes of Newbury, Newmarket and Doncaster.
As she has already won at two of those tracks there is only one to cross off, and that should come in the Betting Shop Manager Of The Year Handicap.
The first division of the Westside Magazine EBF. Maiden Stakes looks a lot more competitive than the second but Mark Johnston’s Drill Sergeant can win the day.
On form alone he looks to hold leading claims but the fact that Seb Sanders has secured the mount is another telling factor.
He has only ridden 10 other horses for Johnston this year in a season when he has had over 1,000 mounts – Sanders’ agent must really fancy this.
Johnston can have a quick-fire double with Mazaaya. A winner on debut, she ran a fine race to finish sixth in a tight race behind the progressive Floristry.
Nicky Vaughan’s Prairie Tiger won nicely last time at Kempton last time, beating a subsequent winner, and he can follow up in the Weatherbys Bank Handicap.
Northern Spy is beautifully bred, by War Chant out of a Nashwan mare, and won on debut at Nottingham.
A mark of 85 for his handicap bow might not stop him from following up in the WBX.com 0% Commission On Day’s Big Race Handicap at Ayr.
He should appreciate the step up in trip and Godolphin could not be in better form.
Bryan Smart has enjoyed his best season and he particularly excels with juveniles.
It looks like he can notch another success with Kyllis in the Join WBX.COM For Free Football Shirt Maiden Stakes at Wolverhampton.
By Kyllachy, an underrated sire, the filly was third at Redcar on debut and improved on that by finishing second last time at Dunstall Park.
Given similar improvement she should be hard to keep out of the frame.
The Geoff Hubbard Memorial Novices’ Chase at Fakenham looks like being a cracking renewal, with some really promising types going to post.
One who has always been highly-touted though is Charlie Egerton’s Hobbs Hill.
He has only been outside the first two twice in seven starts, on his debut in a Fairyhouse bumper and in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle last March.
It was no surprise that he was taken off his feet early on in that as he has always looked a chaser.
He won on his debut over fences at Hexham, benefiting from a canny ride by Jimmy McCarthy and Egerton will be disappointed if he can not win this.
