Khaldun roars for on-song Dettori
Frankie Dettori and Godolphin continued the party after Ramonti’s success in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes as Ibn Khaldun bolted up in the opener at Ascot.
A beautifully-bred colt out of Irish Guineas winner Gossamer, he was 9-4 favourite for the Security Company Nursery and travelled regally throughout.
Ibn Khaldun skipped away at the furlong pole, coming home two lengths clear of Hurricane Hymnbook to earn a quote of 25-1 with sponsors Stan James for the 2000 Guineas.
“We’re very pleased and I think he will run again this season – it probably won’t be in nurseries,” said Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford.
Crisford was asked if Newbury’s Horris Hill Stakes was a possibility and he replied: “That could be a race, as long as the ground is not bad.”
