Zidane misses Ayr Gold Cup

Zidane has been ruled out of Saturday’s totesport.com Ayr Gold Cup.

The five-year-old was a narrow winner of the Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood last month and had been a 12-1 shot with totesport to claim further glory at Ayr.

However, trainer James Fanshawe has stated he will not be confirming Zidane at the five-day stage and will now look to the Group Two John Guest Diadem Stakes later in the month.

“He suffered a deep cut in the Stewards’ Cup which has taken time to heal,” said Fanshawe.

“He’s fine again now, in full work and is being aimed at the Diadem at Ascot on September 30.”
