Benbaun seeking more Curragh glory

Benbaun goes in search of a third successive victory in the Nolan & Brophy Auctioneers Flying Five at the Curragh on Sunday.

Mark Wallace’s stable star has a fantastic record at the Irish track with his last four victories all having come there.

He has been off the track since finishing down the field in the King’s Stand at Royal Ascot when he was well fancied, but Wallace believes that run is best ignored.

“He loves the Curragh and he seems to be getting better with age at the moment,” said Wallace.

“He has won this race for the last two years and it would be great if he could win it for a third time.

“He had blood on his nose after Ascot which goes some way to explaining that performance.

“He has missed a few runs this year because of the soft ground, but it should be fine for him on Sunday hopefully,” he told At The Races.

“He’s done us proud. He’s taken us to France, Italy, Hong Kong and Japan and we’d love to go back to the Far East, but Japan might be in doubt this year because of equine flu.”
