No Greek tragedy for Stoute

Greek Well just got up to deny Peruvian Prince in the Royal & SunAlliance And Motability Stakes (Handicap) at York.

Kerrin McEvoy drove Sir Michael Stoute’s runner, visored for the first time, through a small gap on the nearside rail to make his last-gasp bid.

And the 8-1 chance gamely came through to pip Peruvian Prince by a head. Font was a close third with Yarqus fourth.

McEvoy said: ``It got a bit tight there. I followed Johnny (Murtagh on Font). He gave me a good lead through and the horse picked up really well for me with the headgear on.

“I’ve ridden him a few times and won on him. He’s got a laid-back attitude and the visor helped him so I was able to drop him out a bit more.

“He travelled really well and picked up nicely. He has progressed and I’m really pleased for the horse after the big reputation he had last year,” McEvoy told Channel 4 Racing.
