Royal Ascot winner Henrythenavigator heads Aidan O’Brien’s three-pronged attack on the Independent Water’ford Wedgwood Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.

Royal Ascot winner Henrythenavigator heads Aidan O’Brien’s three-pronged attack on the Independent Water’ford Wedgwood Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.

The unbeaten Coventry Stakes scorer will be out to continue the Ballydoyle trainer’s remarkable record in the Group One feature.

O’Brien has saddled eight of the last nine winners of the six-furlong contest for two-year-olds.

He only narrowly missed out in 2004 when Oratorio was runner-up to the David Wachman-trained Damson.

Backing Henrythenavigator’s bid are stablemates Warsaw and South Dakota.

Ger Lyons’ Elletelle and Tommy Stack’s The Loan Express, a respective first and third in the Queen Mary Stakes at the Royal meeting, renew rivalry.

There is a third filly in the seven-strong field in the shape of Jim Bolger’s Saoirse Abu.

Completing the line-up is sole British raider Captain Royale, trained by Jeremy Noseda.
