Captain Gerrard is in flying form ahead of his bid to land a hat-trick in the Betfair Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood on Tuesday.

The Bryan Smart-trained juvenile has won his last two outings in testing conditions at Chester and showed an impressive change of gear to land a competitive conditions event last time.

He has drawn stall one for Tuesday’s Group Three sprint and connections are relishing the challenge.

Smart said: “He’s been fantastic and I’m very happy with him. He looks super at the moment.

“There’s one or two in there that haven’t won but it’s a very competitive race and he has to have every chance.

“He shows bags of speed and what I was pleased about last time was that he didn’t have to make the running at Chester and still won.

“The gap half appeared and he was through it really quickly. I’m hoping for a big run and he’s drawn right up that stands rail.

“It will be interesting to see where they go but he’s certainly in good form.”
