Classy Approach emulates Teofilo

New Approach maintained his unbeaten record with another authoritative display in the Tyros Stakes at Leopardstown.

New Approach maintained his unbeaten record with another authoritative display in the Tyros Stakes at Leopardstown.

Two weeks ago Jim Bolger’s charge won the same maiden that went the way of Teofilo in 2006, and he made no mistake in again following the same path as last year’s champion juvenile in this seven-furlong Group Three contest.

Kevin Manning soon kicked the Galileo colt into an early lead and dictated matters at the head of affairs.

While the pair briefly looked in trouble as runner-up Brazilian Star loomed large on turning for home, New Approach soon kicked again and scored by a ready two lengths to justify evens favouritism.

Ladbrokes were among those impressed and gave Bolger’s two-year-old a quote of 16-1 for next season’s 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.

Cashmans are slightly bigger at 20-1 from 25s, but have also introduced New Approach at 20-1 in their ante-post market for the Derby.

Bolger said: “We’ll go for the Futurity Stakes and then we’ll see where we go after that with him.

“We’ll look at the National Stakes and the Goffs Million too. He is a real proper horse.”
