Go Tribal with Hobbs charge

Tribal Venture can go a few places better than last year in the Britannia Building Society English Summer National at Uttoxeter.

Philip Hobbs’ charge finished fifth behind Mckelvey in the four-mile feature last term and he looks primed to improve upon that showing this time.

The nine-year-old races off a 1lb lower mark this year after a couple of disappointing efforts before Christmas.

Although a winner at Chepstow last October, Tribal Venture lacked a bit of sparkle in the winter months prompting connections to give him a break.

Tribal Venture duly warmed up for tomorrow’s contest when taking second behind stablemate Tom Sayers at Wincanton.

Although he was beaten seven lengths, Tribal Venture showed enough to suggest a win was not too far away and connections have had this contest on the radar since that reappearance effort.

Spitfire has done nothing wrong in two starts to date and he can maintain his unbeaten record in the K J Pike & Sons Ltd Auction Stakes at Salisbury.

John Jenkins’ runner was a winner over six furlongs on his debut at Warwick, overcoming his inexperience to make up five lengths on the leaders in the final furlong and get up close home.

He then went on to take a Yarmouth novice event, easily accounting for subsequent winner Jebel Tara with more than a little in hand.

Spitfire looks a good, strong gelding and one who can continue on the upgrade here.

Dawn Sky has found one too good on each of his three starts to date but his turn can finally come in the Cold Service Ltd Maiden Stakes.

Bred in the purple being by Fantastic Light out of a half-sister to Arc winner Marienbard, Dawn Sky has so far failed to live up to his illustrious relatives.

Beaten in a backend maiden at Nottingham last season, Dawn Sky was then stepped up to 12 furlongs for his seasonal reappearance and he lost little when finishing a two-length second to Wing Express.

The pair pulled nine lengths clear of the third that day but he failed to justify his short odds at Folkestone last time when just reeled in inside the final furlong.

Dawn Sky obviously has a lot to prove but he is worth another chance.

Winter Sunrise is an eyecatching contender in the totequadpot handicap at Windsor.

Sir Michael Stoute pitches the Pivotal filly into handicap company following her win in an average Sandown maiden last month.

She relished the easy conditions that day and with the ground almost certain to be testing once again, Winter Sunrise can make the most of a fair-looking mark.
