Soldier team consider options

Soldier’s Tale is likely to be aimed at more of the remaining top sprints this year – providing underfoot conditions continue to play to his strengths.

The Jeremy Noseda-trained entire came with a devastating late run to deny Australian raider Takeover Target on rain-softened ground in the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot on Saturday.

Providing he comes out of the race in fine form, connections will now mull tackling two other Group One prizes on these shores as well as the seven-furlong Prix de La Foret at Longchamp on October 6.

Speaking after the success of Soldier’s Tale at Ascot, Noseda said: “Ground will dictate his programme but we will consider all the obvious targets – the July Cup, the Sprint at Haydock and the Foret.

“But today proved that if he is to be competitive at this level he needs soft ground and the downpour before his race helped,” he told www.jeremynoseda.com.

Back in sixth place in the Golden Jubilee was Godolphin’s representative Bygone Days, who stayed on well having made headway over a furlong out.

Connections were delighted with his effort and will now look to plunder a similar event a little further from their base in Newmarket.

Handler Saeed bin Suroor told www.godolphin.com: “Bygone Days ran well. We will keep him to the same class and distance and look for an opportunity for him overseas.

And Frankie Dettori, who partnered the team’s Ramonti to victory in the Queen Anne Stakes earlier in the week, added: “He ran a super race and did everything right. I was very pleased with him.”
