Rocks ready for Ascot

Red Rocks is reported to be on target for the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot in eight days time.

The Brian Meehan-trained four-year-old, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Turf last term, is the general second favourite behind Dylan Thomas for the 10-furlong contest.

Red Rocks warmed up for Ascot with a win in a Sandown Group Three in April and connections are hoping for another bold show at the Berkshire venue.

Jamie McCalmont, racing manager to Red Rocks’ owner J Paul Reddam, said: “I went to Brian Meehan’s to see Red Rocks work last week and he looked in great form ahead of the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes.

“His whole season is being geared towards another shot at the Breeders’ Cup and, all being well over the next few days, Royal Ascot will be his next stop.

“What happens after that will depend on the horse, but we’re considering races such as the Eclipse at Sandown, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth back at Ascot in July, the International at York and the Irish Champion Stakes,” he told the Racing Post.
