No surprises as Fracas wins at the Curragh

Fracas made all the running to comfortably justify odds-on favouritism in the Listed Gallo Family Vineyards Silver Stakes at the Curragh.

Fracas made all the running to comfortably justify odds-on favouritism in the Listed Gallo Family Vineyards Silver Stakes at the Curragh.

The five-year-old - a fine fourth behind Motivator in the 2005 Vodafone Derby at Epsom - was given an uncomplicated ride by Wayne Lordan in the 10-furlong event and those who took the 9-10 never had an anxious moment.

David Wachman's charge had two lengths to spare over Kieren Fallon and Trinity College, who could be counted a shade unlucky as his rider had to switch for a run and he finished to some effect, suggesting a race of this nature might be within his compass.

Wachman was a happy man after seeing Fracas get his head in front for the first time in more than two years.

The five-year-old has plenty of other high-class form to his name and chased home Dylan Thomas in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at this venue in April.

"He deserved to win that as he has been running well behind good horses," Wachman said. "In the Tattersalls Gold Cup here they were just a bit too good for him.

"We'll probably keep to Listed and Group Three races between 10 furlongs and a mile and a half - I'd say 10 furlongs is probably his best trip.

"There was no obvious pacemaker today so we jumped out and once nothing wanted to make it we had to go on."
