Bentley prepared for Ascot assault
Bentley Biscuit’s preparations for his double assault on the Royal Ascot sprints is due to step up a notch early next week.
The Gai Waterhouse-trained speedster is residing at James Fanshawe’s Newmarket yard during his stay in the UK.
He has enjoyed something of a holiday so far but according to Tania Rouse, assistant trainer to Waterhouse, his work will step up in earnest when Waterhouse arrives.
“So far he has only been asked to canter but that will step up once Gai and Nash Rawiller (jockey) arrive early next week,” Rouse said.
“He is cantering nine furlongs in the mornings, feels terrific and is enjoying following the Fanshawe string.”
“From what I hear the others (Australian sprinters) are all doing well although I have not seen them on the heath recently.
“We seem to all be out at different times,” she told www.racenet.com.au.
“But from my perspective I cannot believe how well Biscuit has settled in.
“He is acting like he has been here all his life. He is eating great, looks good and appears to be thriving with his weight terrific.
“He has been to the pool across town for a swim and nothing seems to faze him.”
Bentley Biscuit is 7-1 with Ladbrokes for both the King’s Stand Stakes and Golden Jubilee Stakes at the Royal meeting.
