Tobosa team ponder next move

William Jarvis had admitted that the classy performance of Tobosa at Haydock in the Silver Bowl has left him with a difficult decision to make with regards to Royal Ascot.

Jarvis had been leaning towards a tilt at the Group Three Jersey Stakes over seven furlongs with his colt.

But the speed which he showed in the closing stages over a mile suggested he may not be suited by stepping back in trip.

Tobosa also holds an engagement in the St James’s Palace Stakes, where he would be likely to come up against dual 2000 Guineas winner Cockney Rebel.

“It’s a bit early to say where we will be going with him next but we were thrilled with his victory and he has come out of the race well,” said Jarvis.

“We will sit down and enjoy the moment and have a think where his next race will be.

“The way he finished I don’t think the Jersey Stakes will be the race for him. I think a mile is his trip. But I wouldn’t put a line through the Jersey.

“But saying that, I’m not quite sure if at this stage he is quite good enough to be competitive against Cockney Rebel so it is a hard one to call.

“He’s a good horse though and we are thrilled to have him. He goes on most ground, just not extremes.”
