Aces Four comes up trumps at Aintree

Aces Four, trained by Ferdy Murphy and ridden by Graham Lee, won the John Smith's Mildmay Novices' Chase, the opening race on day two of the 2007 Grand National meeting at Aintree.

Peter Bowen's Yes Sir applied the early pace to the race but began to flag when Aces Four strode past him some way from home.

The winner was always travelling strongly in the hands of Lee and the duo turned for home with a decent advantage over their pursuers.

Faasel and Ungaro briefly threatened to land a blow on turning in but neither could live with the strong-travelling Aces Four, who had time to measure the last in front of a packed grandstand.

Faasel made a few mistakes but stuck on to his credit, while Dom D’Orgeval refused to throw in the towel despite coming under pressure some way from home.
