Mac cuts through Jebel field
Wayne Smith and his main employer, Musabah Al Muhairi, combined to land the feature five-furlong conditions race at Jebel Ali’s first meeting of the season on Friday afternoon.
With a run under his belt the previous week, the six-year-old Machynleth used race fitness to full effect, making virtually every yard to win comfortably.
Smith said: “He ran very well against a good horse last week and with Raging Creek disappointing he was entitled to go close.
“He is a good horse himself and travelled very well throughout the race. He has done it well.”
There was an exciting finish to the nine-furlong handicap when champion trainer Doug Watson’s Tri Another Cat prevailed in a tight finish under Richard Mullen to register Watson’s first winner of the season.
Frenchman Erwan Charpy saddled his fifth winner of the campaign when Cavalarra won the five-furlong maiden in good style under Tadhg O’Shea.
The four-year-old son of Green Desert dug deep to see off several challengers and lose his maiden tag at the ninth attempt.
Charpy trails Satish Seemar by two after Darragh O’Donohoe steered the trainer’s Sparkford to a narrow win in the seven-furlong handicap.
It was a second career win for the four-year-old, who was able to defy top-weight to land the spoils.
The concluding mile handicap was won comfortably by Seemar’s Parnassus in the hands of Ted Durcan.
