Watcher considered for Italian test

Wait Watcher, disqualified after beating Silk Blossom in a valuable sales race at the Curragh, may seek compensation in a Group One race in Italy.

Wait Watcher, disqualified after beating Silk Blossom in a valuable sales race at the Curragh, may seek compensation in a Group One race in Italy.

Paul Blockley is eyeing the Gran Criterium at San Siro in a fortnight for his Fath filly, having last week lost his appeal to overturn the decision made by the Curragh stewards in the Shelbourne Hotel Goffs Fillies 500.

Blockley said: “What you have seen of her the last twice is what this filly is all about, as she didn’t come down the hill first time out at Hamilton and she wasn’t on her game at Folkestone.

“I’ve thought she was very good since March and am not surprised to see her doing better this late in the campaign as she’s a May foal.

“We are looking at going to Italy with my one reservation the length of time it takes to get there.

“Whatever happens, her main aim is the 1000 Guineas.”

Blockley also confirmed Saturday’s impressive York scorer Baby Strange will have another outing this year.

He proved six lengths too strong for Wait Watcher’s Hamilton conqueror Hinton Admiral in the Rockingham Stakes on the Knavesmire and is reported to have taken the race in his stride.

“He has come out of his Listed win great and his target is the Killavullan Stakes, a Group Three over seven furlongs at Leopardstown on October 30,” added Blockley.
