Callan hoping for bold Moulin bid
Neil Callan is hoping Indesatchel can regain the winning thread when he gets the leg-up on the colt in Sunday’s Prix Du Moulin at Longchamp.
David Wachman’s charge made a bright start to his three-year-old campaign and finished a head behind Shamardal in the French 2000 Guineas at the Paris venue last year.
He has failed to cut much ice in five runs since but has reportedly been pleasing his handler at home recently.
“He’s obviously had some problems but Mr Wachman galloped him last week and said he galloped really well,” Callan enthused.
“I’ve never ridden him before but I’ve sat on him at home and he’s a very nice horse. He was in a race at the Leger meeting but he’s obviously worked that well and impressed Mr Wachman that much to take him to France for this.
“The soft ground will suit him down to the ground out there,” he added.
Indesatchel will face a strong challenge from seven classy rivals in the one-mile showpiece, although Jeremy Noseda’s dual Group One winner Araafa is not among them.
Connections of the Irish 2000 Guineas and St James’s Palace hero have decided to send the colt straight to Ascot for the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on September 23.
“Following a consultation with the horse’s owners Salah Al Homeizi and Imad Al Sagar, as well as their racing manager Tony Nerses, it has been decided that Araafa will by-pass the Moulin and head straight to the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes,” the Shalfleet handler told www.jeremynoseda.com.
