Electrocutionist considered for Irish test
Electrocutionist, runner-up to Hurricane Run in the George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes, could return to action in the Baileys Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on September 9.
Despite being the subject of a late injury scare on Saturday morning, Saeed bin Suroor’s Dubai World Cup-winner put up a cracking performance to get to within half a length of Andre Fabre's charge at Ascot.
“He seems fine and, taking all things into account, he’s okay,” reported Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford.
“He had a hard race and will have a few easy days now. The Irish Champion Stakes is maybe a suitable target and he’ll be well entered up in races from a mile and a quarter to a mile and a half.”
Meanwhile, Crisford revealed that Summer Mile winner Echo Of Light is likely to be Godolphin’s only representative in the Cantor Spreadfair Sussex Stakes at Goodwood on Wednesday.
Caradak, Librettist and Iffraaj are also entered in the £300,000 (€438,000) event but none “at this time” are likely to join their stablemate, who was supplemented for the race last week.
“We are keeping an eye on the weather and we will wait and see on the ground, but Echo Of Light is a likely runner, although he wouldn’t want it too firm,” reasoned Crisford.
“This is a big step up in class, although he has run in a Group One race - the Champion Stakes – in which he didn’t acquit himself very well.
“He won his Group Three well and is in very good shape. He’s ready to step up and we’ll see how he gets on,” Godolphin’s racing manager told the Racing Post.
