Major success at Newbury

Major Cadeaux looked a Royal Ascot prospect when impressively taking the paddypowercasino.com Maiden Stakes for Richard Hannon at Newbury.

The debutant was solidly backed in the betting ring and after making a good break from the stalls under Richard Hughes the 7-1 shot was always in the A1 position.

When given the office he quickened up impressively to score by a length and a quarter and three-quarters of a length from Jo’burg and Champlain.

Hannon was represented by his son Richard junior, who said: “He did it very well even though he saw plenty of daylight. The ground was not a problem and one day he will be a proper machine.

“He’ll probably run in the Coventry or failing that the Goffs Million in Ireland which would be very, very nice.”
