Gosden happy with Classic hope
Nannina, winner of the Fillies’ Mile last season, is set to head straight for the Stan James 1000 Guineas without a prep run.
John Gosden’s filly is as low as 5-1 second favourite with William Hill for the May 7 event after registering a short-head victory over the Guineas course and distance on her final start in September.
The daughter of Medicean is reported to be making good progress at Gosden’s new Clarehaven Stables base in Newmarket after the trainer’s move from Manton.
“She’s doing fine, I’m very pleased with her,” said Gosden.
“She is cantering and doing some half-speeds but I haven’t done a lot with most of my horses due to the very late cold spring and there’s no exception with the fillies.
“The plan at this stage is to go straight to the Guineas with her. There’s not a lot of point in running her in one of the trials as we would have to back her up in distance.”
Nannina won three of her five starts last term and the Cheveley Park Stud-owned filly is also entered in the Vodafone Oaks, for which she is a 20-1 chance with Hills.
Gosden added: “She’s a genuine filly and I think a mile would be her minimum trip. I’m confident she will get 10 furlongs this season.”
