Carlisle on after inspection

This afternoon’s meeting at Carlisle has passed an early-morning inspection and goes ahead as scheduled.

Despite an unfavourable weather forecast, a dry night at the Cumbria track meant clerk of the course Johnnie Fenwicke-Clennell was able to give the seven-race card the go-ahead following an 8am check.

“We were in the depths of depression yesterday because we’d had around 15 millimetres of rain until around 4.30pm,” said Fenwicke-Clennell.

“The other problem was that there was frost still in the ground.

“That’s gone this morning and though we will definitely missing out two hurdles and two fences, racing goes ahead.”

The official going at the meeting, which begins at 2.10pm, is currently heavy, soft in places.
