Rendlesham reduced to six
Royal Rosa and The French Furze have both been ruled out of the Rendlesham Hurdle at Haydock this afternoon.
Heat in a leg has caused trainer Howard Johnson to withdraw Royal Rosa from what would have been his first start since he finished lame in this race 12 months ago.
Nicky Richards reported that The French Furze did not scope clean, but is optimistic the 12-year-old could still make Cheltenham.
“He’ll be on antibiotics by about lunchtime and I hope in five days time we’ve got it cleared up and we’re okay again,” said Richards.
“Hopefully we’ve got it quick and can knock it on the head. We may still be all right for Cheltenham, we’ll see.”
The French Furze holds an entry in the Smurfit Kappa Champion Hurdle, while Royal Rosa was left in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle at the latest forfeit stage.
