Fitzgerald hoping for Kauto call

Jockey Mick Fitzgerald is hoping to keep the ride on Queen Mother Champion Chase favourite Kauto Star in Saturday’s totepool Game Spirit Chase at Newbury.

With regular partner Ruby Walsh currently on the sidelines, Fitzgerald, who partnered the horse to his last victory in the Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown, would like to renew his partnership with the Paul Nicholls-trained runner.

“I certainly hope I keep the ride,” Fitzgerald told At The Races.

“Everybody likes to ride good horses and I am no different. He is a dream ride for anybody to get. I’m just hoping I get a phone call from Paul to ask me to ride the horse.”

Kauto Star is a 7-4 chance with Ladbrokes for the Champion Chase after his one-and-a-half-length success over Ashley Brook last December.
