Classic-placed mare Summitville was purchased by a Japanese breeder for 450,000 guineas at the Tattersalls Sales on Wednesday.

The daughter of Grand Lodge was sold to Northern Farm’s Katsumi Yoshida after he held off the efforts of locally-based bloodstock agent John Warren.

Summitville, who finished third to Casual Look in the 2003 Vodafone Oaks, boosted her race record when she finished second in the Group One Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket in October.

She was also placed at the highest level when third to Islington in the Yorkshire Oaks two years ago.

Summitville, who was trained throughout her career by Lincolnshire-based James Given, won more than £250,000 (€367,000) in prize money.
