Jonny powers to November glory
Come On Jonny routed his rivals as he recorded a wide-margin success in the final big betting race of the turf Flat season, the £50,000 totesport November Stakes at Doncaster.
Nelson De Souza soon had the three-year-old bowling along in front and he was never seriously threatened as he galloped on relentlessly on the heavy going to beat Akarem (33-1) by seven lengths.
Estepona (16-1) was a further three-quarters of a length away in third, with Wingman (16-1) in fourth.
Afterwards winning trainer Ralph Beckett was keen to heap praise on De Souza.
He said: “He’s some kid this. He’s very, very good and that’s 18 winners he’s ridden for me this year. He does exactly as you ask and he uses his brain.
“He’s a horse who has to be ridden positively but he has improved all year. You can forget his last run at Newmarket because he got in a right state.
“It’s been a dream year and that’s 32 winners now – my previous best was 17.”
