All hurdles card at Bangor

Bangor has abandoned the three steeplechase races scheduled to take place at its meeting on Wednesday.

Bangor has abandoned the three steeplechase races scheduled to take place at its meeting on Wednesday.

Due to a prolonged period of wet weather, the ground on the chase course is currently described as heavy, waterlogged in places.

And with further rain forecast, the Jockey Club inspectorate has agreed that the chase course will not be raceable.

To that end, the British Horseracing Board has created two extra hurdle events at 1.40pm and 2.10pm.

The six-race card will commence at 1.10pm, with the going on the hurdles course officially described as good to soft, soft in places.

“We have had four and a half inches of rain during the last two weeks and the forecast is for more over the weekend,” said Bangor clerk of the course Ed Gretton.

“The decision has therefore been taken to abandon the steeplechases and replace them with two extra hurdle races.”
