Bailey appeal on Thursday

Alan Bailey will appear at the Jockey Club on Thursday to contest the decision by the Huntingdon stewards to punish him over the running and riding of Ballycroy Girl at the Cambridgeshire track last month.

The filly was 11th of 14 finishers under conditional jockey Bernie Wharfe in a maiden hurdle on October 15 after making some late headway.

The local officials took a dim view of the way Ballycroy Girl was ridden and at the subsequent inquiry Bailey was fined £1,000 (€1,470), Wharfe suspended for seven days and the horse banned from running for 40 days.

The punishments handed out were done so under rules 155(ii) and 157 relating to the guidelines regarding the “failure to obtain the best possible placing”.

Wharfe will not be appealing against his suspension while Bailey’s hearing is due to start at 11am.
